The Many Benefits of Craft Beers

Updated: Jan 27, 2021

Raise your glasses to craft beers! These specialty beers, custom produced at independently-owned craft breweries, are growing in popularity because of their wide variety of flavors — and a host of other benefits they provide.

Support a local business: Craft beers are produced by independently owned breweries. When you choose a craft beverage, even if you’re not at the brewery itself, you’re still supporting a local business. The American economy has seen so much organic growth in the wake of local craft breweries consistently opening and expanding. We at HG Tanks are happy to be a part of that trend, and we love seeing the American economy grow naturally, especially if it involves beer.

Higher alcohol content: While there seems to be no limit to craft beer’s variety, they all have one thing in common: more alcohol. The average A.B.V. (alcohol by volume) for a craft beer is 5.9%. In comparison, the big beer companies weigh in with an average A.B.V. of 4.3%.

Meet the people responsible: Most people live within driving distance of at least one craft brewery, so not only can you meet the people who make your favorite beer, but you can usually tour the facility, giving you a whole new appreciation for those tasty pints.

Superior ingredients: Craft beer is made from barley, hops, and water, (as opposed to rice, which is what big beer brands use). Sourcing local hop varieties and working with farms for fresh additional ingredients such as fruit and herbs provide a deeply rooted local business collaboration. Getting to know the farmers can help when needing to get rid of spent grain, which is typically gifted or sold cheap to local farmers for their livestock.

Improve your health: Did you know that craft beer actually has more health benefits than red wine? It’s a good source of selenium, B vitamins, phosphorus, folate, and niacin. Research suggests that moderate beer drinking may actually help build stronger bones. Craft beer is one of the few dietary sources of silicon, which helps fight off osteoporosis.

The professionals at HG Tanks understand the in's and out's of a brewery and fully support local craft breweries. We’re an industry leader in the design of innovative extraction tanks, fermenters and storage tanks. For more information on our products, give us a call today.
